A forward-thinking girls’ grammar school in Aylesbury is looking for an experienced and proactive HR Officer to join their team on a maternity cover basis from November 2026.

HR Officer – The Role

Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you will oversee the day-to-day HR operations within the school, providing advice and guidance while supporting the continued development of effective HR policies and processes.

Your responsibilities will include:

Managing the Single Central Record (SCR) and ensuring safeguarding and pre-employment checks are maintained
Supporting the full recruitment process, including advertising, shortlisting, interviews, references and right-to-work checks
Managing employment contracts, changes to terms and conditions and personnel records
Monitoring staff absence and managing leave of absence processes
Supporting employee relations and staff wellbeing
Liaising with Finance and Payroll to ensure employee information is accurate and up to date
Supporting HR policy updates and maintaining the Staff Handbook
Coordinating new starter processes, offers, contracts and staff induction
Providing HR reports and key workforce information to senior stakeholders and Governors
Supporting staff learning and development and identifying training needs
HR Officer – The Candidate

The school is looking for someone who is highly organised, proactive and confident, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

CIPD Level 3 or relevant HR experience is essential, alongside a good understanding of employment legislation, employee relations, recruitment and HR processes.

Previous experience within a school or education setting would be beneficial. You will also need to be comfortable handling confidential employee information and working with a high level of discretion.

HR Officer – The School

This is a grammar school in Aylesbury with a strong focus on both academic and pastoral excellence. The school aims to develop independent, resilient and confident young people through an ambitious education and extensive co-curricular opportunities.

The successful candidate will join a welcoming school community and play an important role in supporting staff and the wider school through effective HR management.
