Are you an enthusiastic and nurturing Primary SEN Teacher looking for a rewarding opportunity within a specialist school?

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Primary SEN Teacher to join a specialist SEN school in Mitcham, working within a small KS1 class of just 3-5 pupils, all of whom have autism and are non-verbal.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about creating a highly personalised, communication-focused learning environment where every child can make progress.

The Role

You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with complex autism and communication needs.

The class uses a range of communication approaches, including PECS and Makaton, and candidates with experience in these approaches will be particularly well suited.

You will work closely with an experienced support team to create a calm, structured and positive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging KS1 lessons adapted to individual SEN needs.
Support pupils with autism and complex communication needs.
Use and develop communication strategies including PECS and Makaton.
Create structured routines and a positive learning environment.
Differentiate learning according to individual EHCP outcomes.
Work closely with TAs, therapists and other professionals.
Monitor and assess pupil progress.
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
Support pupils' social, emotional and communication development.
Contribute to an inclusive and nurturing school environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a teacher who is:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Experienced working with pupils with SEN, particularly autism.
Confident supporting non-verbal pupils.
Familiar with PECS, Makaton or other AAC approaches.
Patient, calm and highly nurturing.
Creative in adapting lessons and activities.
Confident managing complex needs.
A strong team player who enjoys working collaboratively.
