Are you passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and breaking down barriers to learning?

A specialist school in Blackpool is looking for a resilient, compassionate, and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.

Whether you have extensive SEND experience or a strong background in care, youth work, residential support, or psychology, your ability to build trust and manage challenging behaviours with calm consistency will make a genuine impact every day.

The Opportunity:

Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support Mentor

Location: Blackpool, Lancashire (Excellent public transport links & on-site parking)

Start Date: September

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (Term-time only)

Pay Rate: £85 - £100+ per day (dependent on experience)

Contract: Full-time, long-term with genuine permanent contract opportunities

Key Responsibilities:

1-to-1 & Small Group Support: Working closely with secondary-age students displaying complex SEMH needs, ADHD, ASC, or trauma-related behaviours.

De-escalation & Regulation: Implementing positive behaviour management strategies and helping pupils self-regulate in and out of the classroom.

Engagement: Delivering targeted intervention tasks to help re-engage pupils in learning and boost their academic confidence.

Pastoral Care: Building strong, non-judgemental relationships to act as a stable, positive role model.

Collaboration: Working alongside SENCOs, teachers, and external multi-agency teams to implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Experience supporting individuals with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional needs (in schools, care settings, PRUs, or youth centres).

Calm, authoritative, yet empathetic communication style.

Strong de-escalation skills (Team Teach, MAPA, or similar positive handling training is highly desirable, though training can be provided).

Patience, resilience, and a sense of humour when dealing with tough days.

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to process one).

Make a tangible difference in the lives of Blackpool pupils this academic year.
