About this job

A specialist education setting in Blackpool requires an experienced, resilient, and robust 1:1 professional to support an individual secondary-aged pupil with complex developmental trauma, high-risk SEMH needs, and harmful/disinhibited sexualised behaviours (HSB).

The role focuses on maintaining firm professional boundaries, establishing stable routines, and reducing risk through consistent relational support. This post is particularly suited to practitioners with backgrounds in Residential Childcare, Secure Children's Homes, Youth Justice / HMPPS secure estates, or Forensic Mental Health who possess high levels of situational awareness and experience managing sensitive behavioural risks.

Key Responsibilities

Provide high-vigilance, consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day, adhering strictly to individual safety plans and line-of-sight protocols.

Implement structured risk-reduction strategies for harmful and socially disinhibited sexual behaviours, maintaining rigorous physical and emotional boundaries.

Employ proactive de-escalation, relational containment, and low-arousal approaches to manage dysregulation and avoid confrontation.

Work collaboratively with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Youth Justice teams, social care, and multi-agency public protection arrangements where appropriate.

Maintain factual, objective, and timely chronological records of all incidents, observations, and safeguarding disclosures.

Requirements

Demonstrable experience supporting young people displaying harmful sexual behaviour (HSB), severe conduct difficulties, or high-risk offending behaviours.

Professional background in residential childcare (Children's Homes), secure units, youth offending services, or high-level SEMH/PRU settings.

Strong familiarity with Safer Recruitment, KCSIE, and professional boundaries in high-vigilance environments.

Certified training in positive handling and de-escalation (e.g., Team-Teach, MAPA/CPI, or PRICE) is highly desirable.

Enhanced Child & Adult Workforce DBS on the Update Service (with full barred-list check) and satisfactory references covering a minimum 2-year history
