About the Role
We are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting supporting pupils from Primary to Secondary age with a range of social, emotional, mental health, behavioural, and additional learning needs.
Pupils you may support can present with:
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
ADHD and associated learning difficulties
Trauma and attachment-related difficulties
Emotional dysregulation and challenging behaviours
Speech, language, and communication needs
Moderate to severe learning difficulties
Sensory processing difficulties
Low self-esteem, anxiety, and school-based trauma
Complex profiles requiring highly individualised support
This is a highly rewarding role where, as a learning support assistant, you'll play a crucial role in helping pupils develop confidence, self-regulation skills, independence, and positive relationships while accessing education in a safe and supportive environment
Key Responsibilities of a learning support assistant
Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual pupil needs
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced significant challenges in education
Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behavioural outcomes
Adapt learning activities to suit a variety of complex needs and learning styles
Use restorative and trauma-informed approaches to manage behaviour
Support communication, social interaction, and relationship building
Encourage independence, resilience, and engagement in learning
Assist pupils during periods of heightened anxiety, distress, or dysregulation
Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, therapists, and external agencies
Maintain a calm, patient, and consistent approach in all situations
What We're Looking For
A compassionate, resilient, and proactive individual
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, ALN, Autism, ADHD, or complex needs (desirable)
Strong behaviour management skills or willingness to develop them
Understanding of trauma-informed and attachment-aware practice (desirable)
Ability to remain calm and confident in challenging situations
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
Commitment to making a lasting difference in pupils' lives
