About the Role:
A primary school in Barnet is seeking a Year 6 SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 10–11 within a structured, supportive classroom.
Working alongside the teacher, you will support the wider class while focusing on a small group with needs relating to attention, autism, emotional regulation and sensory processing. You will adapt explanations, encourage independence and guide sensory breaks and circuits when needed.
With established strategies and practical resources in place, you can focus on building relationships and helping pupils participate confidently. This Year 6 SEN Teaching Assistant role offers the chance to make a difference during an important transition year.
Requirements:
· Primary classroom experience relevant to supporting Year 6 pupils
· Practical experience supporting additional needs, including ADHD or autism
· Confidence supporting the Year 6 curriculum under teacher direction
· Understanding of safeguarding and commitment to pupil welfare
· The right to work in the UK and willingness to complete pre-employment checks
· Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check, including a childrens barred list check
Key Responsibilities:
· Support pupils across lessons, prioritising agreed focus groups
· Use established strategies to encourage attention, emotional regulation and participation
· Guide sensory breaks and circuits in line with existing plans
· Adapt activities and explanations to support learning and independence
· Share observations with the teacher to maintain consistent support
· Promote safeguarding, inclusion and pupil dignity throughout the day
