Novara People are recruiting for a Trainee Furnace Operator to join a specialist manufacturing business in Leeds.

The company manufactures specialist glass products used across a range of industrial applications. This is a great opportunity for someone with a practical/technical mindset who wants to train and develop within a manufacturing environment.

The furnace is essentially high-temperature equipment used to melt and process glass before it is manufactured into specialist glass flake products. Full training will be provided on the machinery and production process.

The Role

Working alongside the Furnace Supervisor, you will be trained to operate, monitor and maintain the furnace throughout production.

Core Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm
Full UK Driving Licence Essential
Full Training Provided

Your duties will include:

Supporting the Furnace Supervisor with the day-to-day running of the furnaces
Starting up and shutting down furnace equipment
Monitoring temperatures, readings and production levels
Adjusting the furnace control panel when required
Monitoring production to ensure the correct type of glass flake is being produced
Identifying and responding to production faults
General fault finding and troubleshooting while the furnace is running
Changing miller screens
Cleaning vacuums and filters
Recording production figures, averages and total output
Working towards production targets
Liaising with R&D Engineers and management regarding production and technical issues
Maintaining high Health & Safety standards at all times
Hours

The core working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm.

This role requires flexibility. Candidates must be willing to work additional hours when production requires it, which can include:

Overtime
Longer shifts
Some weekends
Occasional night shifts

You therefore need to be genuinely flexible around working hours

Skills:

Full UK driving licence – essential
Practical, hands-on approach
Basic understanding of electrical systems
Good problem-solving skills
Comfortable working around industrial machinery
Basic computer skills, including Excel
Able to learn internal software systems for production/data logging
Strong Health & Safety awareness
Reliable and hardworking
Willing to learn and develop
Flexible to work overtime, weekends and nights when required
