Your new company
You will be joining a team within a major government fraud detection and prevention programme focused on protecting taxpayer data and tackling organised repayment fraud.
The Attribute Reputation (Att Rep) team delivers insights that help identify suspicious activity by analysing large volumes of transactional data and deriving risk scores from historical patterns. The team works closely with data product teams and digital services to deliver secure, scalable and user-focused solutions.
Your new role
As a Scala Engineer, you will help define and shape the future of Attribute Reputation services and APIs that support fraud detection and prevention initiatives.You will play a key role in designing, developing and improving high-volume, highly available and low-latency services while supporting the ongoing evolution of the platform architecture.
Key responsibilities
Help define the future vision and consolidation strategy for Attribute Reputation services
Design and develop scalable, secure and testable backend solutions
Build and enhance REST APIs that deliver attribute insights to digital services
Improve existing services and reduce maintenance overhead through incremental re-architecting
Support the adoption of managed services and simplified technology stacks where appropriate
Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, data engineers and wider teams to develop effective solutions
Contribute to database design and application development with strong security and data protection principles
Support operational excellence through monitoring, reliability and incident resolution
Work within a continuous integration environment and contribute to automation and testing practices
Essential skills and experience
Active SC clearance
Strong Scala development experience
Experience with Play Framework or similar MVC/REST API frameworks
SQL expertise
AWS experience
API design experience
Continuous Integration experience
Strong understanding of testing and automation
Experience working in Agile delivery environments
Experience within a "you build it, you run it" operating model
Knowledge of data analysis and database technologies
Awareness of Site Reliability Engineering principles
Experience restoring services during outage situationsDesirable skills and experience
