About this job

SEN Teaching Assistant

Specialist SEMH School - Chorley - Up to £600 per week - Full-Time - September Start

Do you have the personality and resilience to become a positive role model for young people who have struggled within mainstream education?

Are you interested in a career supporting children with SEMH, behavioural needs, trauma, or additional learning needs?

A specialist SEMH school in Chorley is recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged pupils who require a more personalised and structured approach to education. The school provides a supportive environment where strong relationships, consistent routines, and individualised interventions help pupils reconnect with learning and achieve positive outcomes.

The Role - SEN Teaching Assistant

No two days as an SEN Teaching Assistant will look exactly the same. You could be supporting a pupil individually during a difficult lesson, delivering a targeted intervention with a small group, assisting with practical activities, or helping a young person regulate their emotions before returning to learning.

Pupils may have needs including SEMH, ADHD, Autism, attachment difficulties, trauma, and associated behavioural challenges. Some may have experienced disrupted education and can find traditional classroom environments difficult.

Rather than simply reacting to behaviour, you will work alongside teachers and pastoral professionals to understand what is driving it. You will learn to recognise triggers, intervene early, use effective de-escalation techniques, and help pupils develop strategies for managing their own emotions

What's on Offer

Above all, the successful SEN Teaching Assistant will be patient, dependable, emotionally resilient, and able to see beyond challenging behaviour to understand the individual young person behind it.
