Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Blackpool Area

Contract Type: Full-Time (Long-Term / Temporary to July 2027)

Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

Pay Rate: £98 - £120 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

Tradewind Recruitment is currently working alongside a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in the Blackpool area. We are looking for a resilient, empathetic, and proactive Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated support team starting ASAP through to July 2027.

In this role, you will be supporting children and young people who display challenging behaviours, emotional vulnerabilities, or social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will help create a safe, structured, and consistent environment that encourages positive choices, builds trust, and helps students re-engage with their learning.

Key Responsibilities

Behavioral & Emotional Support: Provide 1-to-1 and small group mentoring to help students manage their emotions, regulate their behaviour, and develop coping strategies.

Proactive De-escalation: Use calm, trauma-informed approaches and positive reinforcement to de-escalate challenging situations.

Engaging Learning Support: Assist teachers in delivering adapted lessons that capture students' interests and keep them focused.

Progress Tracking: Monitor and record behavioural and academic milestones in line with individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.

Collaborative Working: Work closely with class teachers, behaviour mentors, SENCOs, and parents to maintain consistent support strategies.

Candidate Requirements

Experience: Previous experience working as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Sports Coach, Residential Support Worker, or behaviour mentor.

Personal Qualities: High resilience, patience, a calm demeanour under pressure, and a strong passion for mentoring vulnerable youth.

Availability: Able to commit to a full-time schedule (Monday to Friday, school hours) starting ASAP through July 2027.

Compliance: Must hold a valid Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one immediately through Tradewind).

What Tradewind Offers

Competitive Pay: Daily rates ranging from £98 to £120 per day paid via PAYE.

Professional Development: Access to free specialist CPD courses, including Team Teach, trauma-informed practice, and mental health awareness.

Dedicated Support: Ongoing guidance and mentorship from an experienced local education consultant.

Long-Term Stability: A secure, rewarding placement running through the academic calendar.
