About this job

Art Instructor (Alternative Provision)

Location: Burnley area

Start Date: As soon as possible (Ongoing)

Role Type: Part-time / Full-time (Flexible options available)

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate, resilient, and creative Art Instructor to join an innovative Alternative Provision in the Burnley area. In this role, you will work closely with young people who may have disengaged from mainstream education, helping them explore their creativity, build self-confidence, and develop emotional regulation through the medium of art.

You do not need to follow a rigid curriculum; instead, you will design engaging, hands-on, and therapeutic art projects that inspire curiosity and self-expression.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver Creative Sessions: Plan and lead engaging art workshops (painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, crafts) tailored to small groups or 1-to-1 settings.

Foster a Safe Environment: Create a welcoming, non-judgemental space where students feel safe to express themselves and take creative risks.

Build Positive Relationships: Act as a positive role model, using patience and empathy to connect with students who have diverse educational and emotional needs.

Track Engagement: Monitor student progress and participation informally, celebrating small wins and milestones.

Collaborate: Work alongside education and support staff to ensure a holistic approach to student welfare and development.

What We Are Looking For

Experience: Background in art, design, fine arts, or art therapy, with previous experience teaching, mentoring, or working with young people (youth work, alternative provision, or SEN environments is a strong plus).

Resilience & Empathy: A strong understanding of social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, combined with a calm, adaptable, and positive attitude.

Creativity: Ability to think outside the box and adapt lesson plans to suit varying attention spans, interests, and skill levels.

Requirements: Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) and the ability to start ASAP.

Why Join Us?

Make a genuine, lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable young people in your local community.

Work in a supportive environment with a collaborative team.

Ongoing professional development and flexible working arrangements.
