SEN Teaching Assistant

About the Role
We are looking for a caring, resilient and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Slough, supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and complex learning needs.
The pupils require a highly personalised approach to education and are working at approximately Nursery-level developmental stages. As a result, this role is particularly suited to someone who is patient, nurturing and confident in adapting their approach to meet the individual needs of each pupil.
You will play an important role in helping pupils develop their communication, confidence, emotional regulation, independence and engagement with learning. Building positive relationships will be at the heart of the role.
What You’ll Be Doing

Providing dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of additional needs.

Supporting pupils with ASD, SEMH and challenging behaviours in a calm and consistent manner.
*
Helping pupils access learning through play-based, sensory and practical activities.
*
Adapting resources and activities to suit pupils working at an early developmental level.
*
Supporting pupils with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.
*
Encouraging independence and developing pupils' confidence and life skills.
*
Using visual timetables, structured routines and other communication strategies where appropriate.
*
Implementing individual behaviour and learning support plans.
*
Using positive reinforcement and appropriate de-escalation techniques when required.
*
Supporting pupils with personal care where necessary.
*
Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals to provide consistent support.
*
Helping to maintain a structured, safe and welcoming learning environment.
*
Supporting pupils during lunchtime, breaktimes and educational activities.
*
Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and pupil welfare.
What We’re Looking For
Previous SEN experience is essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience supporting pupils with:

Autism / ASD
*
SEMH needs
*
Challenging behaviour
*
Communication difficulties
*
Complex or additional learning needs
*
An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (UDS) is essential.
*
Relevant SEN, Education, Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualifications are desirable but not essential where the candidate has strong relevant experience.
