About the role

We're recruiting a SEND teaching assistant for a one-to-one role supporting a Year 5 learner with autism and ADHD at a primary school in Walton on Thames. You'll work with one child in a mainstream classroom setting, supporting their learning, independence, and engagement across the school day.

As a one-to-one teaching assistant, you'll provide individualised support tailored to this young person's needs. You'll help them access learning, manage transitions, develop self-regulation strategies, and build their confidence in a busy classroom environment. This is complex, varied support that makes a real difference to how the child experiences school.

Your role includes:

* One-to-one classroom support and learning assistance

* Supporting the child's access to whole class teaching

* Behaviour and self-regulation support

* Transition management and anxiety reduction

* Developing independence and coping strategies

* Supporting communication and social interaction

* Working closely with teachers and SEND coordinators

* Recording and reporting on the child's progress and wellbeing

* Adapting support based on the child's changing needs

About you

You have genuine experience supporting young people with autism and ADHD - whether in schools, settings, or other environments. You bring patience, flexibility, and a real commitment to understanding how this child's mind works. You might be a teaching assistant, a support worker, an educator, or someone with lived experience of neurodiversity who cares deeply about helping young people thrive. You bring:

* Experience supporting children with autism and/or ADHD

* Real understanding of neurodivergent learning styles

* Calm, flexible approach to behaviour and sensory needs

* Ability to build rapport and trust with young people

* Commitment to supporting learning and independence

* Reliability and professionalism

* Willingness to adapt your approach based on the child's needs

About the school

A welcoming primary school in Walton on Thames with strong SEND support. The school values inclusive practice and supports learners with a range of needs in mainstream classrooms with skilled support.

What we offer

* Long-term one-to-one placement

* Competitive daily rates

* Working with a Year 5 learner in a mainstream classroom

* Opportunity to make a real impact on a young person's learning and wellbeing

* Professional support and school integration

* Clear pathways for development
