I hope you are well.

We are seeking a Tutor to support an 18-year-old male with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), significant communication needs, sensory differences and learning difficulties. He has attended specialist provisions throughout his education and would benefit from a patient, adaptable tutor who is confident supporting learners with additional needs.

Provision Details
Location: SN10 area
Delivery: 1:1, face-to-face
Preferred Setting: Away from the family home where possible
Subjects: Functional Skills English, Functional Skills Maths, Potentially History and Geography
Additional Support: SEMH support, mentoring and independence skills development

About T

T has a strong interest in History and Geography and would enjoy opportunities to explore these subjects alongside his core English and Maths learning, this however is not mandatory.

- Anxiety in noisy or crowded environments
- Sensory processing difficulties
- Social, emotional and mental health needs
- Significant communication difficulties
- Reliance on routine, structure and predictability
- Difficulty managing change, transitions and unfamiliar situations
- Requiring 1:1 support for both engagement and safety due to potential flight risk when distressed

T can find social interactions challenging and benefits from working with familiar, trusted adults. He may communicate distress indirectly through withdrawal, noises, becoming frustrated, or asking others to "go away."

- Using visual timetables and visual supports
- Providing clear structure and routine
- Breaking tasks into manageable steps
- Giving additional processing time
- Supporting emotional regulation and confidence building
- Developing functional communication skills
- Encouraging independence and life skills development
- Supporting social communication in a safe and structured way

- Functional literacy and numeracy skills for adulthood
- Independence skills, including managing money, time and everyday tasks
- Increased confidence and resilience
- Improved communication skills
