Day Centre Support Worker
Location: Islington, N5
Pay Rate: £17.00 - £19.00 per hour (Umbrella)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 4:00pm (35 hours per week)
About the Role
We are currently recruiting an experienced and compassionate Day Centre Support Worker to join a welcoming day service supporting adults with Learning Disabilities, Autism, Physical Disabilities and Complex Needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support individuals both within the day centre and out in the local community. You will encourage service users to develop their independence, build confidence and participate in a wide range of meaningful activities tailored to their individual needs and goals.
The service promotes an outcome-focused, person-centred approach, helping individuals gain life skills, increase social inclusion and enjoy fulfilling daily experiences.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver high-quality, person-centred support to adults with Learning Disabilities, Autism, Physical Disabilities and Complex Needs.
• Support individuals to access a variety of on-site and community-based activities.
• Promote independence, confidence and life skills through meaningful engagement.
• Encourage participation in arts, music, gardening, sports, sensory activities and other structured programmes.
• Support service users with community outings including swimming, museums, galleries, bowling and other leisure activities.
• Assist individuals when arriving and leaving the day centre, including support with transport transfers where required.
• Provide personal care in a respectful and dignified manner where required.
• Maintain accurate daily records and report any safeguarding or welfare concerns.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a safe, positive and inclusive environment.
Essential Requirements
• Experience supporting adults with Learning Disabilities, Autism, Physical Disabilities and/or Complex Needs.
• A good understanding of person-centred care and promoting independence.
• Willingness to provide personal care.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or a DBS issued within the last 12 months.
• A caring, reliable and proactive approach to supporting vulnerable adults.
Desirable
• A minimum of 3 years' recent UK experience supporting adults with Learning Disabilities.
• NVQ 2+ in Health and Social Care
• Experience working within a day centre or community-based support service.
• Experience supporting individuals with behaviours that may challenge.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, moving and handling, and positive behaviour support.
• Up-to-date mandatory training or willingness to complete training before starting.
About the Service
The Day Centre supports adults with varying levels of Learning Disabilities, many of whom have additional physical needs or dual diagnoses. The service is outcome-focused and aims to help individuals develop practical life skills, increase independence and access opportunities within their local community.
