Yard Operative Location: Weldon Road
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:30pm
Pay: £12.71
Looking for a hands-on role where no two days are quite the same? We’re looking for a Yard Operative to join a busy timber yard and become part of a friendly team of four. This is a practical, physical role where you’ll play an important part in keeping timber moving efficiently from the yard, through the drying process and into production.
What will you be doing? Your day-to-day work will include:
Moving timber and board packs around the yard and into production
Receiving and unloading timber deliveries
Stacking and storing timber safely and correctly
Checking and grading boards for defects
Edging boards to the required specification
Keeping board packs organised, labelled and in the correct locations
Loading and unloading timber from the kilns
Moving dried timber into storage or production
Helping keep the yard clean, tidy and organised
Carrying out daily equipment checks and following health & safety proceduresWhat are we looking for? You don’t necessarily need previous timber yard experience. We’re looking for someone who is:
Comfortable working outdoors and carrying out physical work
Reliable and hardworking
Able to follow instructions and work accurately
Safety-conscious
A good team player
Keen to learn and develop new skillsPrevious experience in a timber yard, sawmill or manufacturing environment would be useful, as would a Counterbalance Forklift licence, but neither is essential.
Full training provided If you’re new to the timber industry, don’t worry. Full on-the-job training will be provided, including forklift training if required.
There are also opportunities to develop your skills in timber grading, kiln operation and other areas of the business as the company continues to grow.
