We are currently looking for an experienced MIG / Spot Welder to join our busy structural steelwork manufacturing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled welder with experience working in a structural steelwork or heavy fabrication environment, producing quality steel components to engineering drawings and specifications.
The Role
As a MIG / Spot Welder, you will be responsible for welding and assembling structural steel components, ensuring all work is completed to the required quality and dimensional standards. You will work from engineering drawings and follow welding procedures to produce accurate and consistent welds.
You will need to understand that the duties involved are physical, due to the size and scale of some of the projects.
Key Responsibilities:
MIG welding structural steel components (largely mild steel)
Spot welding and tack welding assemblies
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Preparing, positioning and securing components prior to welding
Checking dimensions and weld quality throughout production
Working with various sizes and thicknesses of structural steel
Grinding, finishing and preparing welded components where required
Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working area
Working to production targets while maintaining high-quality standards
About You
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in MIG welding, fabrication or structural steelwork and be confident working with steel components of varying sizes and thicknesses.
You should be able to read basic engineering drawings, understand welding symbols and work accurately with minimal supervision. A good eye for detail, reliable approach and commitment to producing quality work are essential.
Previous experience within a structural steelwork, fabrication or similar manufacturing environment would be highly advantageous.
We may also consider those who have been involved in pipe welding, fitting, brazing and other duties where similar skills are applied.
Rate of pay: £14.00 per hour, increasing to £14.50 after a short qualifying period of around 6 weeks.
You will then progress to a £15 hourly probation rate after 12 weeks, you would then be able to climb the skills matrix where you can obtain £17 per hour and beyond.
Hours of work: 07:00-17:00 Monday to Friday, with regular Saturday shifts of (Apply online only)
Overtime is available and will apply at a premium of time plus one quarter.
