About this job

Prospero Teaching are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or someone with a background in SEN, care, support work or youth work who is passionate about helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning.

The successful candidate will provide tailored support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs, helping them access the curriculum, develop their confidence and make positive progress both academically and personally.

You may be supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and within the wider classroom environment, working closely with teachers and the school's SEN team to ensure individual needs are met.

Key responsibilities:

Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEN
Supporting pupils to access learning and participate positively in the classroom
Helping pupils develop their confidence, independence and social skills
Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs and learning difficulties
Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals
Adapting activities and learning approaches to suit individual pupils
Maintaining a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment
Encouraging pupils to reach their full potential

What we're looking for:

Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN is highly desirable
Experience within a school, specialist setting, care environment or youth work is beneficial
A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Resilience and confidence when managing challenging situations
The ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure
A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
Relevant qualifications are desirable but not always essential, depending on experience

Why Prospero?

We work with a wide range of schools across Bristol and can offer opportunities for candidates looking to develop their experience within SEN and specialist education.

Candidates can also access Prospero Learning, our online training platform, giving you the opportunity to complete additional courses and develop your knowledge and skills alongside your placement.

Whether you are an experienced SEN TA, Learning Support Assistant, Support Worker, Youth Worker or a graduate looking to start a career in education, we'd love to hear from you.
