Are you a passionate and resilient Teaching Assistant with experience supporting young people with SEN, SEMH and challenging behaviour?

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Rochdale, supporting pupils who may have experienced barriers to education and require additional support to engage positively with learning.

The Role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant within the PRU, you will work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team to provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of additional needs.

You will play an important role in helping pupils regulate their emotions, manage behaviour, rebuild confidence and develop positive attitudes towards education.

Key Responsibilities

Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, behavioural and communication needs
Helping pupils manage emotions and regulate their behaviour
Supporting pupils to engage with lessons and learning activities
Building positive, trusting relationships with young people
Using positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement
Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff
Supporting pupils' social, emotional and academic development
Promoting independence, confidence and positive behaviour

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH
Experience within a school, PRU, alternative provision, specialist setting or similar environment
Strong behaviour management skills
A calm, patient and resilient approach
The ability to build positive relationships with challenging or vulnerable pupils
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education
