SEN Teaching Assistant (ASD) – Barnet

Teach Now is recruiting a compassionate and consistent SEN Teaching Assistant with experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) for a primary-school opportunity in Barnet.

You will provide tailored support to help pupils access learning, communicate successfully and feel secure within the school environment. Depending on pupil needs, support may be delivered 1:1, within a small group or as part of the wider classroom.

Key Responsibilities

Provide personalised support for pupils with ASD.

Break learning activities into accessible and manageable steps.

Support communication, interaction and social development.

Help pupils manage transitions, routines and changes during the school day.

Use visual resources and structured approaches where appropriate.

Recognise potential sensory needs and help reduce barriers to learning.

Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team.

Encourage independence rather than creating dependence on adult support.

We’re Looking For

Experience supporting children with autism or other SEN.

A good understanding of how ASD can affect communication, interaction and learning.

Calm, patient and consistent communication.

Experience with visual timetables, PECS, Makaton or similar approaches would be advantageous.

Strong safeguarding awareness.

Enhanced DBS and right to work in the UK.
