Infrastructure Engineer – 12-month contract – Fareham

My longstanding customer is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join an established IT team, supporting, and developing a secure, resilient, and highly available infrastructure environment.

This is a hands-on infrastructure role covering Windows Server, VMware, cloud, and networking, with a mixture of BAU support, technical troubleshooting and involvement in infrastructure projects, migrations, and platform upgrades.

Essential Technical Experience from the Infrastructure Engineer:

Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows Server.
Good knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
Practical experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter.
Experience supporting Microsoft Azure or AWS infrastructure.
Strong understanding of networking, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, and firewalls.
Experience working within hybrid on-premises/cloud environments.
Experience with infrastructure monitoring, backup, and recovery technologies.
Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across complex infrastructure environments.
Working knowledge of PowerShell or scripting/automation.
Key Responsibilities of the Infrastructure Engineer:

Administer, support, and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and file services.
Manage and support VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter environments, including virtual machines, hosts, clusters, storage, and patching.
Support Microsoft Azure or AWS infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, and backup.
Work across hybrid infrastructure environments, spanning on-premises, virtualised and cloud platforms.
Support core networking infrastructure including LAN/WAN, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, firewalls, wireless, TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across server, virtualisation, cloud, and network environments.
Contribute to infrastructure projects, migrations, upgrades, and transformation initiatives.
Support backup, disaster recovery, and infrastructure resilience.
Provide 3rd line technical support and carry out root cause analysis where required.
Maintain technical documentation and contribute to infrastructure improvements and automation.
The Infrastructure Engineer is required to be onsite, 5 days a week in Fareham.
