About this contract

Senior Linux / HPC Engineer

Location: United Kingdom (London / Remote UK - Occasional visit to London Data Centre access)

Contract: 12 Months (Contract) | Start: August

The Role

Looking for a hands-on Linux & HPC Engineer to join a elite Cloud Engineering group supporting high-performance scientific computing platforms. You'll work alongside a Senior HPC SME to support quantitative researchers, data scientists, and modelers, while helping drive a massive modernization initiative.

This isn't just an operational support role-you'll actively execute platform migrations, upgrade cutting-edge GPU clusters, and streamline HPC workflows.

What You'll Do

Support Quantitative End-Users: Triage and resolve Altair Grid Engine job scheduling, queue management, and Linux environment issues (Spack, Python, R, permissions).

Drive Modernization & Migrations: Help lead a CentOS 7 → RHEL 9 migration across 400+ developer tools and support VM migration to Nutanix.

Hardware & GPU Upgrades: Assist with rolling out next-gen compute (NVIDIA B200 / RTX Pro) at UK data centre sites.

Operational Excellence: Maintain runbooks, manage patch cycles/CVEs, and establish robust change-control hygiene.

What You Bring

8+ Years in Linux Systems: Deep expertise in RHEL, CentOS, or Rocky Linux environments.

HPC Expertise: Solid understanding of cluster job schedulers (Altair Grid Engine / SGE preferred), parallel filesystems (GPFS/Spectrum Scale), and GPU workloads.

Scripting & Automation: Strong Bash capabilities (Python and Ansible are a major plus).

Migration Experience: Familiarity with migrating HPC toolchains, Spack module builds, or OS upgrades.

UK-Based: Flexible remote setup, but must be available for occasional visits to London (Telehouse) data centres.

Nice to Haves

Nutanix / VMware virtualization experience

CUDA / InfiniBand setup experience

Exposure to Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, or enterprise backup platforms
