Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Site Engineer to join a major section of the HS2 project in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a leading Tier 1 contractor on one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects, delivering complex civil engineering works.

The Role

As Site Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient delivery of construction activities, with a particular focus on planning, permit control, temporary works coordination and excavation safety.

Key Responsibilities

Managing and issuing Permits to Dig in accordance with project procedures.

Carrying out and recording CAT & Genny scanning prior to excavation works.

Supporting the management and implementation of Temporary Works requirements on site.

Maintaining accurate daily diaries and site records.

Assisting with short-term planning and coordination of daily construction activities.

Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and project programmes.

Supporting quality assurance processes, inspections, and site documentation.

Liaising with subcontractors, supervisors, and project stakeholders.

Ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and project-specific procedures.

Identifying and resolving technical and operational issues on site.

Requirements

Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

Previous experience working as a Site Engineer on major infrastructure or civil engineering projects.

Demonstrable experience with:

Permits to Dig

Temporary Works

CAT Scanning / Utility Avoidance

Daily Diaries and Site Documentation

Construction Planning and Coordination

Experience working around excavation, utilities, earthworks, highways, drainage or structures.

Strong understanding of health and safety requirements associated with excavation works.

CSCS Card.

Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
