The Role An opportunity for an experienced finance professional to support a targeted improvement project within the Capital Finance team. Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will provide additional capacity to strengthen financial controls, improve balance sheet accuracy and support capital accounting activities.
This is a hands-on role focused on technical accounting, financial controls and capital funding rather than finance business partnering.
Key Responsibilities
Improve and strengthen financial controls across capital programmes.
Review and enhance balance sheet reconciliation processes.
Monitor capital funding streams, including capital grants and developer contributions.
Support capital cashflow monitoring and forecasting.
Assist with asset accounting and capital accounting requirements.
Contribute to year-end and soft-close activities.
Identify process improvements and implement best practice controls.
Ensure capital transactions are accurately recorded and reported.Essential Experience
Qualified or part-qualified accountant (CCAB/CIMA or equivalent).
Experience within local government or a large public sector organisation.
Strong understanding of capital accounting and capital funding.
Experience undertaking balance sheet reconciliations and financial control reviews.
Knowledge of capital grants, developer contributions and cashflow monitoring.
Analytical approach with strong attention to detail.
Able to work independently and deliver improvements quickly.
