Are you someone who can remain calm under pressure, build trust quickly and help children see the positives in themselves and their learning?
Academics are working with a primary school in Redbridge that is looking for a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join its team from ASAP until July 2027.
This is an opportunity to work in a school that believes children should be encouraged to become confident, resilient and independent learners. The successful Behaviour Mentor will become an important source of consistency for pupils who may need additional support with their behaviour, emotions or engagement in school.
What will you be doing?
Your day-to-day role will involve:
Providing dedicated 1:1 and small-group support
Helping pupils understand and regulate their emotions
Developing positive relationships with children who may find school challenging
Supporting pupils to recognise triggers and develop appropriate coping strategies
Encouraging positive choices and attitudes towards learning
Helping children build self-esteem, confidence and resilience
Supporting pupils during periods of dysregulation or challenging behaviour
Reinforcing clear and consistent boundaries
Working alongside teachers and pastoral/SEN staff
Helping pupils develop the independence needed to manage situations more successfully
Creating a calm and positive presence around the schoolWho would suit this role?
Previous experience within a SEMH or SEN setting would be a strong advantage, particularly if you have supported children with behavioural, emotional or social needs.
You may already be working as a Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Pastoral Support Worker. Alternatively, experience in youth work, care or another child-focused environment could also be valuable.
Most importantly, you'll need patience, resilience and the ability to build genuine relationships with children. You should be confident setting boundaries while remaining approachable and understanding.
The Opportunity
This is a full-time Behaviour Mentor position in Redbridge, starting ASAP and running through to July 2027, paying £97-£110 per day.
You'll be joining a school environment that values inclusion and recognises that every child has different strengths, needs and starting points. The wider school approach encourages pupils to be curious, confident and independent, while providing the support they need to overcome barriers.
