About this contract

HLTA - Key Stage 2

Location: Southwark, South London
Start: As soon as possible
Duration: Long-term, for the remainder of the academic year
Days: 4 or 5 days per week
Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm
Pay: £130 per day

HLTA - Key Stage 2 | Southwark

A primary school in Southwark is looking for a confident and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their Key Stage 2 team on a long-term basis, starting as soon as possible and continuing for the remainder of the academic year.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teaching assistant or HLTA who is confident leading a class independently, or for a qualified teacher who is looking for a role with less classroom responsibility.

The successful candidate will primarily provide class cover for teacher PPA time and SLT release, delivering engaging and well-structured lessons across Key Stage 2.

The Role

Provide planned class cover across Key Stage 2.

Cover teacher PPA and SLT release time.

Deliver pre-planned lessons and activities effectively.

Manage the classroom confidently and maintain a positive learning environment.

Support pupils' learning, progress and engagement.

Work closely with class teachers and the wider school team.

Adapt activities where appropriate to meet the needs of pupils.

Maintain high expectations of behaviour and learning.

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for someone who:

Has strong experience working within a primary school, ideally across Key Stage 2.

Is confident taking responsibility for a class without the direct supervision of the class teacher.

Can deliver lessons and follow existing planning effectively.

Has strong classroom management skills.

Is reliable, adaptable and able to work well as part of a school team.

Has a positive and nurturing approach to supporting children.

Is able to commit to 4 or 5 days per week for the duration of the assignment.

QTS is not required for this position. The role would suit an experienced HLTA, Teaching Assistant or other education professional who has demonstrable experience of confidently leading a primary classroom.

Equally, this could be an excellent opportunity for a qualified teacher who is looking to step away from the full responsibilities of a class teacher while remaining involved in classroom teaching.

What the School Offers

A long-term opportunity for the remainder of the academic year.

A supportive and welcoming primary school environment.

Consistent work within Key Stage 2.

The opportunity to work closely with experienced teachers and SLT.

A role focused on planned class cover rather than taking on full class-teacher responsibilities.

£130 per day, with the applicable employment and agency-worker terms provided as part of the assignment.
