About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant in Hemel Hempstead, you will work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team to provide tailored support to students with additional needs.
You will support pupils within the classroom, on a 1:1 basis, and through small-group interventions, helping them engage with learning and overcome barriers to progress.
You will play an important role in creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, ensuring students feel confident, valued, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Providing in-class, 1:1, and small-group support for students with MLD
Supporting students with literacy, numeracy, and structured learning activities
Assisting teachers in delivering adapted and accessible lessons
Helping students remain focused, engaged, and motivated during learning
Supporting pupils to develop their independence, confidence, and communication skills
Maintaining a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
Building strong, trusting, and positive relationships with students
Supporting students' social, emotional, and academic development
Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teachers and the SEN team
The ideal SEN Teaching Assistant will have:
Previous experience working within SEN, particularly with MLD, is desirable
Experience working with secondary-aged students or young people
A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to adapt your approach to meet individual learning needs
Confidence supporting students with a range of needs and behaviours
A proactive, reliable, and positive attitude
