About this contract

A leading £150m turnover civils contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Freelance Project Manager to support the delivery of a number of major Environment Agency projects across the region.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager with a strong heavy civils and flood defence background, who is comfortable managing projects from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) through to construction and completion.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the successful delivery of complex civils and environmental schemes, working closely with the client, designers, subcontractors and site teams.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Leading the planning, programming and delivery of heavy civils and flood defence works
- Managing site teams, subcontractors and supply chain partners
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, to programme and within budget
- Managing project costs, forecasting and commercial performance
- Working closely with the Environment Agency and other key stakeholders
- Overseeing design development, constructability and buildability during ECI
- Managing temporary works, construction methodology and risk
- Ensuring compliance with project specifications, quality requirements and environmental standards
- Leading progress meetings and maintaining strong client relationships
- Managing programme, risk, change and project reporting

Experience Required

The successful candidate will ideally have:

- Proven experience as a Project Manager within civil engineering
- Strong Environment Agency / flood defence project experience
- A background in heavy civils, including earthworks, concrete structures, drainage and associated infrastructure
- Previous experience working through ECI / pre-construction stages
- Experience managing projects for major public-sector or framework clients
- Strong commercial, contractual and programme management skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Relevant industry qualifications, ideally including SMSTS, TWC, First Aid

The Opportunity

You will be joining an established £150m turnover civils contractor with a strong pipeline of Environment Agency and wider infrastructure projects.

The role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging flood defence and heavy civils schemes, with the potential for further freelance opportunities following successful delivery
