Electronics Design Engineer

Location: Broad Oak Works, Portsmouth
Onsite: 3 to 4 days per week
Duration: 12 months
Rate: £60.63 PAYE or £81.90 Umbrella
Security: BPSS + full SC (UK eyes only / ITAR)
BAE Systems is hiring an Electronics Design Engineer to support the electronic aspects of hardware design and test, covering both new product development and technology insertions into legacy products. You'll be involved end-to-end from concept through detailed design, verification, integration and test, working closely with wider engineering teams.
The role
You'll contribute to board and unit-level hardware design, ensuring designs are robust, testable and suitable for introduction into production. The work includes supporting internal test activity as well as external environments (EMC test houses and customer installations where required).
Key responsibilities
Detailed electronic circuit design, including:
component selection and evaluation
schematic capture
circuit simulation and analysis
supporting PCB layout teams through the design cycle
Board and unit-level design & test, including interfaces to higher-level assemblies/systems
Design verification using a blend of simulation, analysis, and practical test methods
Support EMC testing activity (including liaising with external test houses) and support to customer installations when needed
Produce and maintain design documentation, technical reports, and supporting evidence packs (acceptance, fitness for purpose, safety/legislative requirements)
Specify and support bespoke procured hardware
Work collaboratively across disciplines (systems, embedded software, PLD/FPGA engineers, test, integration)
Support system integration activities and contribute to defect resolution
Participate in progress reviews, peer reviews and design reviews
Contribute to developing technical requirement specifications and support higher-level system design as required
Essential experience
Degree (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering (or closely related)
Proven experience producing component-level electronic designs that can be introduced into volume production
Strong digital design background including (as applicable):
processor interfacing
memory devices
PLD interfacing
UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet
Experience with ADC/DAC devices and associated techniques
Solid analogue design experience (op-amps, transistor-level design, control loops, low-noise techniques)
Experience with design proving, integration, and defect resolution
Comfortable working to cost and timescale constraints
Able to communicate complex technical detail clearly and produce strong documentation
Desirable experience
Defence or high safety integrity environment experience
Low-noise analogue techniques
High power techniques (kW-level)
FPGA/CPLD development exposure
Mentoring/coaching other engineers (depending on seniority)
Clearance / eligibility
You must be able to obtain and maintain BPSS and full SC, and meet UK eyes only / ITAR restrictions
