Work with BAE Systems | 12-Month Contracts | Start dates from November 2026 

Morson are recruiting experienced Slingers on behalf of BAE Systems in Portsmouth. These are initial 12-month contracts, with a strong likelihood of extension — so if you're looking for a long-term opportunity in the marine industry, this could be the one for you.

What’s the job?

You’ll be part of a skilled team working across Royal Navy vessels, carrying out intermediate and complex lifting operations within the ship repair and support environment.

We're looking for people who understand that when it comes to lifting, there's no room for guesswork. Safety, precision and knowing your kit inside out are essential.

You'll be responsible for:

Carrying out safe systems of work at all times
Reading and interpreting drawings for lifting operations

Undertaking intermediate and complex lifting evolutions across all classes of RN vessels

Assessing load weights and centres of gravity
Working to lift plans where required

Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and standard operating practices

Using crane hand signals and radios effectively

Working with various types of cranes and lifting equipment

What you need

We're looking for candidates with a marine or heavy industry background and a strong understanding of lifting operations.

You'll need knowledge of:

LOLER & PUWER regulations
BS 7121
De-rating of lifting accessories depending on geometry and mode of use
The roles and responsibilities of a Slinger, Appointed Person and Lift Supervisor
Crane hand signals and radio communications
Different types of cranes and their applications

Ship repair and support industry lifting techniques

What’s in it for you?

DAY SHIFT – PAYE

Local: £20.80 per hour

Non-local: £28.80 per hour

NIGHT SHIFT – PAYE

Local: £27.04 per hour

Non-local: £35.04 per hour

Umbrella rates also available.

12-month initial contracts
Immediate starts available
Strong likelihood of extension
Subject to security clearance
