Functional Skills Tutor

Help Learners Develop Essential Skills for Education and Employment

We're looking for a Functional Skills Tutor to support children and young people in Aldershot and the surrounding Hampshire area through personalised 1:1 tuition.

Working on behalf of Local Authorities, you'll support learners who require alternative educational provision, helping them develop key English and Maths skills, increase confidence, and work towards meaningful educational outcomes. Many of the young people supported have faced barriers to learning and benefit from a personalised, flexible approach that meets their individual needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for education professionals who enjoy seeing the direct impact of their support and helping learners make practical, measurable progress.

Location: Aldershot & Surrounding Hampshire Areas
Subject: Functional Skills (English & Maths)
Start Date: September
Hours: Flexible
Pay Rate: £25-£30 per hour
Type: 1:1 Tuition

Requirements

Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting, including tutoring, teaching, teaching assistant, mentoring, learning support, or similar roles
Experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills English and/or Maths
Ability to adapt sessions to suit individual learning needs
Experience supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs, or additional needs is desirable
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Patient, reliable, and engaging approach
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally within the Aldershot area

Anxiety and school avoidance
