Hydrologist

Mansfield (Hybrid)

2 months, possible extension

Location: Primary coverage area is South and Mid Wales ; hybrid

Key requirement:

This is a hands-on field and office-based Hydrologist role, focused on flow monitoring, hydrometric surveys, data interpretation, and providing technical advice for mine water and environmental projects. Frequent site travel is required

Minimum Requirement:

-Review and assess water flow monitoring data to ensure quality and accuracy.

-Conduct site visits to inspect monitoring structures and equipment.

- Review contractor proposals and assess completed work against requirements.

- Monitor and evaluate flow monitoring structures (e.g., weirs and flumes).

- Support the Senior Hydrologist with technical hydrology and flow monitoring activities.

- Help identify monitoring issues and recommend practical solutions.

Key Essential Skills:

1. Previous experience with hydrological monitoring installations in the UK

2. Experience working with contractors, such as overseeing work, reviewing proposals, managing deliverables, or ensuring work meets required standards

3. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

Must have:

• Degree in Hydrology, Environmental Science, or related field.

• Practical hydrology/hydrometry experience, including flow monitoring, flow measurement, and monitoring equipment installation.

• Experience analysing flow and environmental monitoring data.

• Experience managing/supervising contractors.

• Strong technical reporting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have:

• MSc Hydrology.

• GIS experience.

• Flood Risk Assessment, source apportionment, or dispersion modelling experience.

• CIWEM membership and/or Chartered status.

Ideal backgrounds:

• Environmental consultancy.

• Water industry (water/wastewater).

• Environmental regulator (e.g., Environment Agency).

• Water resources, catchment management, river monitoring, flood risk, or mine water projects
