Contractors’ Questions: What contractor marketing techniques are best for 2022?

Contractor’s Question: I’ve read the more general business tips for contractor businesses in 2022 but what should I do this year from a marketing perspective?

Expert’s Answer: My top tips to market your contractor limited company this year are three-fold.

Firstly, polish what is effectively your marketing brochure as a contractor.

What contractor CVs should highlight in 2022

So yes, that means getting your CV in tip-top shape. It is your main marketing document after all!

When reviewing your CV, make sure it walks through your previous client engagements and focuses on the business benefits you have delivered.

If you are looking for outside IR35 assignments, make sure you are not presenting a typical ‘job-seeker’ CV. If you are flexible, and considering both inside and outside IR35 positions, have a chronological and case study-style CV to cover both bases. Should you be unsure what’s what, you can get a free review of your CV here.

LinkedIn optimisation

Secondly, get your LinkedIn profile in equally tip-top shape! With 4 out of 5 businesses intending to recruit in 2022, LinkedIn will be a hotbed for recruitment activity, and recruiters and clients will be sourcing talent by searching for relevant skills.

Make sure your LinkedIn profile is optimised for search terms and in line with how the LinkedIn algorithm works.

Your profile on LinkedIn should also describe your value proposition, service offering and track record, which are essential messages to get yourself on a potential client’s radar. Turn up your volume

Thirdly, lastly, it may sound obvious but then make some noise!

Having a great CV and LinkedIn profile is one thing, but if no one knows you exist, you’re wordsmithing efforts will go to waste!

As previously mentioned, optimising your LinkedIn profile for search terms will help, but there’s more you can do to get noticed. Get some posts out on LinkedIn, reach out to your network and write an article. This trio would be a good starter for ten! Expanding this into a full blown thought leadership strategy would be a great way to build your contractor business in 2022.
